BODY CONTOURING AFTER MAJOR WEIGHT LOSS

Major weight loss can be a significant achievement, but it may leave excess or loose skin in different areas of the body.

Body-contouring surgery can help remove excess skin and reshape areas affected by major weight loss. Treatment is individually planned according to your anatomy, weight-loss history, health and goals.

How Did You Lose the Weight?

Major weight loss can occur through different methods, including:

• Gastric sleeve

• Gastric bypass

• Other bariatric surgery

• Weight-loss medications such as Semaglutide (Wegovy/Ozempic) or Tirzepatide (Mounjaro/Zepbound)

• Diet and exercise

• A combination of methods

Regardless of how the weight was lost, the pattern and amount of excess skin varies from person to person.

AREAS THAT MAY BE TREATED

Body contouring after major weight loss may address excess skin and changes in body shape affecting:

• Face & neck

• Breasts

• Arms

• Abdomen

• Lower body / 360°

• Thighs

• Back & flanks

Depending on the individual case, procedures may include facelift and neck lift, breast lift, arm lift, abdominoplasty/tummy tuck, lower body lift, 360° body lift, thigh lift, back and flank contouring, or combinations of procedures.

DO I NEED TO REACH MY FINAL WEIGHT?

Ideally, patients should be close to their desired weight and have a stable weight for at least  3 months before undergoing major body-contouring surgery.

Important considerations include:

• Whether further significant weight loss is planned

• How long your weight has been stable

• Nutritional status

• General health

• The areas causing the greatest concern

In selected cases, Dr. Ashraf may consider treating a particularly problematic area before the patient’s ultimate weight has been reached, with further procedures considered later if appropriate.

CAN SEVERAL AREAS BE TREATED TOGETHER?

Some patients may be suitable for combined procedures, while others may benefit from staged body-contouring surgery.

The decision depends on the patient’s individual anatomy, the amount of excess skin, the procedures required, overall health and safety considerations.

AM I A CANDIDATE FOR BODY CONTOURING?

Suitability depends on your individual circumstances, including:

• Weight-loss history

• Current and stable weight

• Overall health

• Nutritional status

• Previous surgery

• Current medications

• Smoking status

• Areas of excess skin

• Future weight-loss plans

An individual medical assessment is required before treatment can be recommended.
